What it is
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added as a preservative. It is the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilised peptides, and the only one that lets you enter the same vial more than once.

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The preservative is what distinguishes it from plain sterile water and what allows a multi-dose vial to be entered more than once.
How it works
Benzyl alcohol is bacteriostatic rather than bactericidal — it does not sterilise the solution, it prevents bacteria introduced during handling from multiplying. That is what makes multi-entry possible, where plain sterile water for injection is single-entry only.

Handling and storage
Nothing to reconstitute — this is the diluent. Store at room temperature, out of direct light, and do not refrigerate. Swab the stopper before each entry and direct the stream down the wall of the peptide vial rather than onto the powder cake. Discard 28 days after first entry.
