What it is
Epithalon is a four-amino-acid peptide synthesised to mimic epithalamin, a natural pineal gland extract. It came out of Russian gerontology research in the 1980s and remains one of the few peptides studied specifically for telomere biology.
Background
Epithalon is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. It was developed by the group of Vladimir Khavinson at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It holds no regulatory approval outside Russia.
How it works
Rather than acting at a surface receptor, Epithalon is reported to interact directly with DNA promoter regions — including the promoter for the telomerase reverse transcriptase gene. It is separately studied for restoring the melatonin secretion rhythm.
Why researchers order it
It is the standard reference compound for telomere-related research, and its four-amino-acid size makes it exceptionally stable and inexpensive relative to what it is studied for. Note that much of the foundational literature is Russian-language and older — this is an area where the research base is thinner than the interest in it.

Handling and storage
Add 2ml to the 10mg vial (5mg/ml) or 5ml to the 50mg (10mg/ml). Short peptides tolerate handling well; swirl, don't shake. Store unopened vials at −20°C, protected from light; lyophilised powder is stable for years that way and tolerates shipping at ambient temperature. Solutions prepared for analysis should be held at 2–8°C, protected from light. Repeated freeze–thaw cycles compromise sample integrity.
